Hello to you from Texas (USA), I have recently been given one of these beautiful dolls, it is the Costume Doll by Peggy Nisbet (on the card on her wrist it says Made in England) and she is holding a beautiful staff with a crystal ball at the end of it as well and on the inside of the card on her wrist is also says House of Nisbet Limited, 85-6800, 8″/20cm, HM Queen Elizabeth II, In State Robes, Nisbet Royal Family Doll, Made in England. On the back of this same card it says Artistic Copywrite, is claimed in respect, of the whole range, of coloured custume dolls by, House of Nisbel Limited, and any instances of infringement brought to our notice will be prosecuted. Also pinned inside her dress on the slip is a paper that says Mary Calio – Queen Elizabeth, and one other piece of paper pinned to her slip under her dress says Mary R. Calio. She is wearing a very beautiful Crown, it is purple with varied colored jewels all the way around the crown, she is also wearing a lovely necklace that is white and has what I would assume in real life would be diamonds spaced around the necklace around her neck. There are also gold and white ribbons on both sides of her head right next to be ears, and she also has on matching earrings to the necklace she wears. There is also a ribbon tie on her left hand as well lke the on she has on her right wrist with the information I typed above. Her eyes are blue , her lips are red, her hair is brown and her hair on both sides is turned under and covers her ears. Her gown is quite lovely and is white with gold speckled dots making a varied design all over her short sleeved gown. She wears a white slip/petticoat under her dress along with white lace panties and white slip on dress shoes. She wears a very beautiful robe made of purple velour with gold circles weaving back and forth the whole length of her robe that is very long and her robe is then outlined with white fur and the entire back of her robe is adorned with this same white fur and is very becoming on her. I do not see any type of markings or letters/numbers abywhere on her back or upper hp area, there is a round circle that looks as if you could push it and she might lift her arms or maybe just one arm, but when I pushed it easily nothing happened.I did not want to bother her hair or crown sitting atop her head to look for any markings if that may be where something might be. I received her in the original box she was put in after she was made, it is outlined in red cardbboard and has what i think is cellaphan covering her up, but time has left a small area that is open slightly but could very well be closed with a small piece of clear tape, I have not done this reparation to her box as i do not want to do anything that might somehow hurt the wonderful condition she is in. the only thing on the outside of her box says PEGGY NESBIT DOLLS – Hand madein England by House of Nwsbit LTD. Also, there is a small label above the wording that I just typed in and the label says, House of Nesbit Limited, 85-6800, 8″/20cm, HM Queen Elizabeth, In State Robes, Nesbit Royal Family Doll, Made in England.
At the bottom of the box on the front side it says This Collectors’ model is not a child’s plaything and is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. On the very back of the box it has the NISBET DOLL ARTISTRY INFORMATION but it does list the address that I am typing here for you to see: House of Nisbet Limited, 18A Ashcombe Park Road, Weston super-Mare, England.
I am wondering what amount of insurance I may need to put on her as she is going into my collection of a varied amount of different dolls from all over the world and I love each and every one of them, but this is my first Nisbet Doll that I am honored to receive from one of my very dear relative. Thank You so much for any help you may be able to assist me with. Blessings to you and yours, Most Sincerely, Judy Yates
Hi Judy, Most Nisbet dolls do not have a lot of monetary value as they were produced in large numbers and kept in good condition. I saw an Elizabeth II in State Robes on eBay that sold recently for $25. The best way to find out the value of any doll is to check the SOLD prices (not currently listed prices) on eBay. Search for the item you want to research and then click on Show Only Sold Items in the left hand column (if you are on a computer). If you are on your phone, search and then tap Filter and select Sold Items. Hope this helps.
